Touchstone Exploration announced on July 7 successful drilling results from its Cascadura-5 development well onshore Trinidad and Tobago.
The well, located on the Ortoire block, was spud on June 4 and reached a total depth of 7,020 feet in 22 days. It was drilled using Star Valley Rig #205.
“Cas-5 was drilled on schedule and on budget, with field-estimated costs of approximately US$5 million, despite extending the target depth,” President and CEO Paul R. Baay said in a recent company’s announcement.

Touchstone said the well encountered approximately 620 feet of gross sand within the Herrera Gr7bc interval, the primary target of the operation. Hydrocarbon-bearing sands were observed throughout the interval based on wireline logging, mud logging, and drill cuttings data. Cas-5 is the second well drilled into the B block of the Cascadura structure and encountered reservoir intervals approximately 300 feet updip from the Cascadura-2 well, drilled in early 2024.
The original planned depth was 6,654 feet, but drilling was extended due to encouraging data suggesting continued hydrocarbon presence.
Baay said, “The performance of our new drilling team, along with the use of synthetic oil-based mud and managed pressure drilling, was instrumental in delivering a successful operation.”

The well was cased for future production. All tie-in equipment is already on-site.
Touchstone holds an 80% operating interest in the well, with Heritage Petroleum Company Limited holding the remaining 20%.
When funding becomes available, the rig will be moved to complete drilling at Cascadura-4, which is cased to 3,200 feet and is also targeting the Herrera sands. The planned total depth for Cas-4 is approximately 6,500 feet. The company intends to complete and tie in both Cas-4 and Cas-5 to the Cascadura natural gas facility.
Baay added, “The hydrocarbon intervals observed align with or exceed our pre-drill expectations and continue to enhance our understanding of the Cascadura structure as we integrate ongoing seismic interpretation.”
