ExxonMobil Guyana expects production from the Stabroek Block to climb sharply before the end of 2025, driven by the early start-up of the Yellowtail project and strong reliability across operating assets.

President of the company, Alistair Routledge, told reporters at a press briefing on Monday at Exxon’s new Ogle campus that the company is “on the path towards the 900,000 barrels a day…we anticipate producing by the end of this year”.

He confirmed that output in September averaged about 740,000 barrels per day, reflecting continued ramp-up and efficiency gains across the fleet.

Yellowtail, Exxon’s fourth production vessel, began operations on August 8 – four months ahead of schedule. Routledge said gas injection began within 30 days of start-up, and flaring activities tied to commissioning have since concluded. The team is now in the “final preparations in order to be able to increase the production to the full plateau rate”.

He noted that Yellowtail was designed for an average capacity of 250,000 barrels per day, though the facility can safely accommodate higher throughput of around 265,000 barrels per day or more.

Once production stabilizes, Exxon will review whether additional debottlenecking could further lift output. “We’ll look at it and see the safe way to debottleneck… and whether it is an economic proposition,” Routledge said, adding that this assessment will come only after sustained, stable operations.

The company’s other three producing assets – Liza Phase 1, Liza Phase 2 and Payara – continue to perform smoothly, contributing to the near-record output. “Really great reliability on the…other three assets is contributing to that,” Routledge said.

If the current trajectory holds, Guyana will close the year producing close to 900,000 barrels of oil per day – one of the highest per capita production rates in the world.
