Alistair Routledge,  President of ExxonMobil Guyana says the company’s fifth and sixth developments — Uaru and Whiptail — are advancing as planned, with both projects “on or close to their target schedules”.

Speaking at a press briefing held on October 13 at ExxonMobil’s new Ogle campus, Routledge shared, “Projects five and six that were sanctioned in prior years are making excellent progress.” He explained that the successful delivery of such mega projects depends on three major elements: drilling wells, installing subsea infrastructure, and constructing the floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) facilities.

“All three elements of both the first projects are on the target schedule,” Routledge said. “That would put us on a startup schedule which is 2026 for Uaru and in 2027 for the Whiptail project.”

The US$12.7 billion Uaru development targets more than 800 million barrels of oil and will include up to 10 drill centers and 44 wells. It is designed to produce 250,000 barrels of oil per day when it comes online in 2026. Japanese contractor MODEC is building the Errea Wittu FPSO, which will process and store oil from the Uaru field.

The Whiptail development, ExxonMobil’s sixth project in the Stabroek Block, will also produce 250,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day once operational. SBM Offshore is constructing the FPSO for this project, while TechnipFMC will supply the subsea production systems.

When both developments come online, Guyana’s total offshore production capacity is expected to surpass one million barrels per day.
