MODEC has launched a new intake for its Offshore Technical Trainee Program in Guyana. This initiative follows the launch of the company’s onshore training program, which includes eight Guyanese in its first cohort.

MODEC is seeking trainees to take part in a 2-year program in the fields of Maintenance and Production. The training aims to provide “the necessary technical and practical skills to work in the offshore environment, as well as the opportunity to be formed and guided in a technical career in a company that is recognized for its investment in people, safety, and operational efficiency.”

The program is open to recent graduates with up to two years since completion and in possession of a technical certificate. A high school diploma along with “strong technical and organizational skills” is also required. Applicants for the Maintenance stream must possess certificates in areas such as mechanical, electrical or instrumentation. For Production, “any relevant certificate in a Technical Field is applicable”.

The Offshore Technical Trainee Program is based in Georgetown and falls under MODEC’s Operations and Support Department. It is a full-time initiative.

This offshore training is part of MODEC’s wider plan to build skills in Guyana. The ongoing onshore trainee program covers both technical and non-technical areas, including contracts administration, electrical instrumentation, rotating equipment, planning, and integrity engineering. It is structured into four phases, with rotations in Brazil and Singapore.

In addition, MODEC introduced a separate internship program in 2024 to give university students hands-on experience in the supply chain, human resources, and legal and compliance departments.

MODEC was awarded the contract by ExxonMobil in 2023 to deliver the Errea Wittu floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for the Uaru project offshore Guyana under an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) arrangement.
