MODEC is expected to unveil a new training programme to bolster Guyana’s existing offshore capabilities, Country Manager Rafeal Fumis announced at the recent launch of MODEC’s permanent Guyana office.
“Our voyage is far from over. We are preparing to launch our Offshore Trainee Program, providing opportunities for another batch of Guyanese to receive industry-standard training in the oil and gas sector,” he said.
MODEC already has a training programme running; eight Guyanese form part of the first group.
The onshore training program equips recent graduates with skills in technical and non-technical fields, namely, contracts administration, electrical instrumentation, rotating equipment, planning, and integrity engineering. The training program is structured in four phases, with rotations in Brazil and Singapore.
In addition to the trainee program, in 2024 MODEC launched an internship program offering university students hands-on experience in the supply chain, human resources, and legal and compliance departments.
“There is still much to accomplish, and I have every confidence in our team, our partners, our clients, and our ability to collaborate with all stakeholders to achieve even greater success,” Fumis added.
ExxonMobil hired MODEC to deliver the Errea Wittu floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for the Uaru project offshore Guyana through an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract in 2023.
