Saipem’s Castorone vessel has commenced its campaign for Guyana’s Whiptail development. This was confirmed by Saipem’s Company Supply Chain Manager, Diego Vicke in a LinkedIn post on October 9.
Saipem’s scope of work entails the detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of the subsea production facilities that connect to the Jaguar floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), where oil is processed, stored, and eventually offloaded onto tankers, supported by service vessels.

Saipem’s 2011-built deepwater construction vessels FDS2 and the 2014-built Constellation will also be used for the offshore installation work and its construction facility for equipment fabrication.
Saipem has already undertaken similar operations for ExxonMobil’s Liza phase 1, Liza phase 2, Payara, Yellowtail and Uaru projects, and recently Hammerhead.
The Whiptail project, led by ExxonMobil with partners Hess and CNOOC, is one of Guyana’s major offshore oil developments.

Once operational in 2027, the project is expected to add 250,000 barrels of oil per day to Guyana’s output, pushing total offshore production capacity above one million barrels daily. SBM Offshore is building the FPSO vessel for Whiptail, while TechnipFMC is supplying subsea production systems.
