Local suppliers in Guyana’s oil and gas industry were given an opportunity to strengthen their participation in the sector through SBM Offshore Guyana’s annual Vendor Day, held this week at the Pegasus Suites.
The event brought together more than 50 representatives to engage directly with the company’s leadership on ways to enhance local business capacity and partnership development.
According to a press release issued by SBM Offshore Guyana on Saturday, the initiative was designed to foster collaboration through open dialogue and knowledge sharing while reinforcing the company’s commitment to building local capacity. Sessions covered compliance, finance, HSSE, local content and inclusion and diversity, all focused on improving efficiency, transparency and alignment with SBM Offshore Guyana’s procurement standards.

SBM Offshore Guyana’s General Manager, Martin Cheong, said partnership remains central to the company’s operations. “At SBM Offshore, partnership lies at the heart of everything we do. We recognise that our success in Guyana depends not only on the strength of our operations but also on the strength of our relationships, with local businesses, with communities and with the many talented individuals who contribute to the country’s development,” he said.
Area Operations Manager Ricardo Pinto stressed that continued collaboration is essential to achieving shared goals. “As we continue to expand our operations in Guyana, it is crucial that we strengthen this partnership even further. This means maintaining open communication, supporting capacity building and creating opportunities for mutual success,” Pinto added.

The release also quoted Director of the Local Content Secretariat, Michael Munroe, who commended SBM Offshore Guyana’s efforts to maintain active engagement with local vendors. “Contractors and sub-contractors must create forums like these, we believe fundamentally that once we have dialogue then we can make local content more impactful,” Munroe outlined.

“One of our goals is to ensure we engage with locals first to ensure that local vendors receive opportunities,” the company’s Local Content Lead, Garri Fraser said.
SBM Offshore Guyana said Vendor Day continues to serve as a cornerstone of its supplier engagement efforts, driving transparency, innovation, and shared learning as part of its ongoing support of Guyana’s sustainable development.
