Guyana Deep Water Operations Inc. (GDO), a subsidiary of SBM Offshore, is seeking information from Guyanese suppliers for steel fabrication, timber supply and protective equipment.

The company issued a request for information (RFI) on May 15, noting that the process is intended to assess the local market and gather technical and operational information from suppliers for several onshore scopes.

The RFI covers three categories: steel fabrication, timber supply and protective equipment.

For steel fabrication, GDO is seeking up to 150 metric tonnes of carbon steel handrails and ladders, up to 50 metric tonnes of carbon steel monorails, and up to 150 metric tonnes of carbon steel W-beam by January 2027.

The company is also seeking up to 50 metric tonnes of carbon steel piping and electrical supports, and up to 30 metric tonnes of carbon steel piping by May 2027. Another requirement covers up to 50 metric tonnes of carbon steel modules connecting platforms by March 2028.

GDO said the steel fabrication scope includes manpower, cutting, fit-up, machining, welding, grinding, non-destructive examination services, preservation, dimensional control and final documentation.

“All personnel involved must receive clear health and safety information, including written instructions where needed, as well as appropriate equipment markings and warnings,” the notice stated.

For timber supply, the company is seeking up to 10 metric tonnes of timber by March 2028. The timber must be 200 millimeters (mm)in width and 100 mm in height.

Suppliers must be registered with the Guyana Forestry Commission and hold valid operating licenses. These may include a forest produce license, timber sales agreement or sawmill/dealer’s license.

The notice identified the required wood type as balau wood, red balau or an equivalent. The material must be supplied with valid certificates showing its physical, mechanical and working properties.

The timber must also undergo vacuum and pressure treatment with Celcure wood preservative and fumigation.

“In the event, an alternative type of wood is proposed, please submit as part of the RFI response the datasheet and other relevant information i.e. track record of similar usage of the wood – especially in the offshore environment,” the notice stated.

For protective equipment, GDO is seeking suppliers with the capacity to manufacture or supply items in Guyana. These may include coveralls, polo T-shirts, helmets, goggles and safety signs.

The quantities for the protective equipment are to be confirmed. The estimated date of requirement is January 2027.

The notice said suppliers must show a track record of supplying protective equipment to the oil and gas industry.

“Quantities and delivery timelines shall be subject to adjustment based on the capabilities and availability of local suppliers in Guyana,” the notice stated.
