SBM Offshore has begun fabrication of the GranMorgu floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. On May 20, the company held a first steel cut ceremony at BOMESC Shipyard in Tianjin, China, marking the official start of topsides module construction.
The GranMorgu FPSO will support Suriname’s first offshore oil development. The project is a collaboration between SBM Offshore, TotalEnergies, APA Corporation, Staatsolie, and Technip Energies.

“GranMorgu FPSO stands as a testament to our commitment to merging innovation with reliability,” SBM Offshore said in a LinkedIn post today. “We’re excited to highlight this key moment in the journey of the GranMorgu FPSO.”
The FPSO will feature an all-electric drive, zero routine flaring, and gas reinjection systems. It is designed to produce up to 220,000 barrels of oil per day. Production will come from around 30 wells tapping into reserves estimated at 750 million barrels.
GranMorgu is built on SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward® Multipurpose Floater C (MPF C) hull. The hull was reserved in June 2023 and delivered in February 2025.
The vessel is expected to begin oil production in 2028.
