On March 30, 2018, ExxonMobil affiliate Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL) and its joint venture partners Hess and CNOOC Nexen will commence drilling operations at the Sorubim-1 well within the Stabroek Block of the Guyana Maritime Zone.

The operations will incorporate the use of the supply vessel Liam J McCall.

The drill site is approximately 83 nautical miles from the coast of Guyana and covers an area of four square kilometres.

The Pacora-1 well, located approximately four miles west of the Payara-1 well, was the last well to be announced as having hydrocarbons in commercial quantities following discoveries. It followed discoveries made on the Stabroek Block at Liza, Payara, Liza Deep, Snoek, Turbot and Ranger.

So far, the recoverable resources confirmed in the Stabroek Block are estimated in the order of 3.2 billion barrels.
