Harvey Gulf International Marine Inc. has established its newest country office in Guyana. On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, Harvey Gulf’s local office, Guyana Offshore Vessel Services Inc, held a reception to celebrate the occasion in front of their building on Barrack Street, Kingston, Georgetown.
President of the American Chamber of Commerce Guyana (AMCHAM), Zulfikar Ally, welcomed the company to the South American country and expressed the belief that Harvey Gulf’s presence in the market will greatly contribute to the development of the nation’s energy sector.
“Your presence in Guyana will do more than just create jobs; it will lift industry standards in the oil and marine sectors, improve safety standards and safety culture, and can serve to streamline important aspects of health and safety at the national policy level through collaboration with the private sector and national authorities,” the AMCHAM president said.
CEO of Harvey Gulf International Marine Inc., Shane J. Guidry, said that his company has found a permanent place in Guyana and he was proud to emphasize his company’s commitment to local content.
“We are going to continue to grow in this region… We’d love to see the day when its 100% Guyanese, where we could possible reflag boats into a Guyanese flag. As long as, that makes sense and the Government supports that and has a support system for it. But we’re here to stay. We’re here to stay,” Guidry stated.
Petroleum Geologist at the Department of Energy, Marissa Foster, stated that the establishment of local offices in Guyana by foreign companies is a clear indication of investor interest in the South American country.
“This shows the level of confidence the international market has in our country and more, specifically the potential growth for the petroleum sector,” she stated.
Foster further added that the Department of Energy looks forward to more collaborations between foreign and local companies; especially those that involve capacity building through the transfer of knowledge and skills sharing.
