Hundreds of delegates and exhibitors from countries around the world have arrived in Guyana for the staging of the second edition of the country’s largest oil and gas conference and exhibition – GIPEX 2019.  The three-day event will open today at the Guyana Marriott Hotel in Georgetown.

Director of the Department of Energy, Dr. Mark Bynoe said on Tuesday that the growing participation in the country’s signature petroleum exhibition and summit is a signal of the increasing interest being shown in Guyana.

“That many of the participants at this event have traveled long distances to be here serves to emphasize just how important the new and emerging oil and gas industry in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana has become,” he stated.

Dr. Bynoe said the Department of Energy is committed to managing the emerging oil and gas sector in the “most efficient and effective manner” for the benefit of all Guyanese.

“We aim at ensuring our fellow citizens, regardless of race, religion or circumstance benefit fully from this sector. Our task is to make it happen. Our mission is to provide the tools and set the framework by which this can be achieved. We, therefore, welcome the participation in GIPEX 2019, in pursuit of this goal,” he stated.

Over 600 delegates and 200 companies are set to participate in the event including a large contingent of local firms, many of which are already providing services in the country’s oil and gas industry.

ExxonMobil Guyana, GIPEX Strategic Partner for the second year running, says the event provides a great opportunity to showcase the South American country.

The US oil major is set to begin oil production potentially in December, ahead of the initial Q1 2020 schedule, at the 120,000 bpd Liza Phase 1 Development.

“As the strategic sponsor again this year, we see Guyana International Petroleum Business Summit and Exhibition (GIPEX) as a great opportunity to showcase Guyana, Guyanese companies and the bright future for oil and gas development here,” said Deedra Moe, Senior Director, Public and Government Affairs.

She said support for events such as GIPEX is in line with what the company does around the world in countries in which it operates.

“ExxonMobil has sponsored many industry conferences inside and outside the countries in which we operate as we consider these events as good networking opportunities to share ideas, educate key stakeholders and the public about our operations,” Moe said.

GIPEX 2019 will run from November 20 to 22 and will feature a number of presentations and panel discussions with participation from government officials, representatives of the oil and gas industry and the local business community.
