Italian engineering and drilling services firm Saipem is inviting companies to express interest in bidding for the construction of a fabrication yard to support its operations at the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana.

The contracting period has been given as second quarter of 2020. The contractor will be required to provide civil construction works inclusive of engineering and materials procurement.

Companies have until April 3, 2020 to submit their expressions of interest. All interested companies must be registered with the Centre for Local Business Development in Georgetown.

In the notice, Saipem said that they are committed to long term sustainability and for ensuring social and commercial benefits accruing to Guyana when possible and without jeopardizing the HSSE and quality of their crew and facilities.

In Guyana, Saipem has been awarded subsea contracts for the first two phases of the Liza development in the offshore deepwater Stabroek Block. The company had announced in November 2019 that it was awarded a contract for the proposed Payara development project also located at the Stabroek Block.

ExxonMobil, operator at the Stabroek Block as well as several of its contractors have stepped up measures in the country to ensure the safety and health of those working in support of the offshore activities in light of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Measures being taken as a result of the disease could see operations at the Stabroek Block slowing down as the US oil major grapples with travel restrictions which is affecting the movement of personnel to the country.

As a result of COVID-19 safety measures, the company has also placed on hold works related to the construction of its head office at Ogle on the East Coast of Demerara, in the South American country.
