MatPal Marine Institute has joined the growing list of ISO 9001:2015 Certified companies in Guyana, through the support of Global Compliance Service (GCS), the only Accredited ISO Certification Body with a resident office in the new oil producing South American country.
MatPal is Guyana’s first marine institute that provides IMO approved STCW training and locally approved maritime training for Deck and Engine Room departments for mariners working internationally, as well as inland waterways and within the oil and gas industry of Guyana.
The institute began providing training on October 5, 1999, as Guyana’s only maritime Institute approved by the Maritime Administration Department and has been partnering with other regional maritime training institutions for over 21 years.

Through the support of the Centre for Local Business Development, MatPal embarked on the process to become ISO compliant in December 2018 and achieved this objective in August 2020.
GCS said companies certified to the ISO 9001:2015 standard have established a Quality Management System, which provides a framework for the delivery of consistent quality products and services as defined within its scope of certification.
GCS is a Guyanese owned and operated business with a team that consists of local professionals qualified as ISO Management Systems Trainers and Auditors. The company said its ISO Certifications are issued from its office in the United States through an accredited process.
ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised standard for a quality management system (QMS) that was developed and published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This certification provides a model for companies of all types and sizes to improve internal systems, build quality management systems and operate effectively at different levels, including the ability to focus on customer requirements and constantly find ways to become resilient and sustainable.
