Petrobras said last Friday that the Anna Nery floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel began its voyage to Brazil, from the Cosco Qidong shipyard in China. The platform is expected to start producing oil in 2023 in the Marlim field of the Campos basin, offshore Brazil.

But before it gets there, the vessel will conduct navigation tests for 15 days in Chinese waters, after which it will make stops in Singapore and Mauritius to supply and exchange the crew. Arrival in Brazil is expected in October. At this point, final commissioning will occur.

The vessel can produce 70,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and process 4 million cubic meters of gas. It has water injection capacity of 240,000 barrels of water per day.

Petrobras said it was charted with the energy infrastructure and technology company Yinson. The vessel incorporates an ‘all-electric’ concept which maximises electricity usage to reduce emissions.

Anna Nery is part of the Marlim and Voador Revitalisation Project. Also including the production unit, Anita Garibaldi, the project will expand the current production of Marlim and Voador by 150,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, extending development of those field deposits to 2048. Present production there is 30,000 bpd of oil and about 420,000 cubic meters of gas.

These vessels are included in the Brazilian state company’s strategic plan 2022-2026 to add a total of 15 FPSOs, increasing its production by over 2 million bpd.
