The Ghana Chamber of Commerce is gearing up to spearhead a pioneering two-day Ghana – Guyana Local Content Conference, scheduled to take place in Georgetown, Guyana, at the Marriott Hotel on Thursday, August 10.
This event, a collaboration between the Ghana Chamber of Commerce Guyana, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Local Content Secretariat in Guyana, and three paramount state agencies from Ghana’s petroleum sector, marks the initiation of a conference series intended to alternate between the two nations.
Opoku Ahweneeh Danquah, CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), described the conference as a distinctive platform for private sector players from both countries to interact, share experiences, and identify investment and collaboration opportunities. The aim is to enhance local capacity and participation in the oil and gas sectors of both countries.

Since its first oil in 2010, Ghana has developed significant local capacity in the upstream petroleum industry. This conference aims to leverage this capability to offer services on an international scale, reinforcing the bilateral agreement between Ghana and Guyana.
Bobby Gossai Jr, Senior Advisor at Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources, expressed confidence that the conference will facilitate meaningful knowledge exchange and collaboration.
The conference will address key themes such as local content, capacity building, knowledge and skills transfer, all of which have the potential to unlock growth and development in the petroleum sector.
Ms. Loveland White, Director of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce Guyana, said, “We are thrilled to host this groundbreaking conference, which marks a significant milestone for the Chamber.” She added that the conference aims to facilitate valuable discussions and collaborations that will benefit both nations.

The conference will feature experts in the field, panel discussions, and workshops. Egbert Faibille Jnr, CEO of the Petroleum Commission, highlighted the importance of the conference in fostering economic growth and empowering local businesses in Ghana and Guyana.
Faibille believes that pooling resources, knowledge, and expertise can drive innovation and progress in the energy sector, especially with the Ghana Petroleum Commission’s advisory role in drafting Guyana’s local content law.
The inaugural Ghana – Guyana Local Content Conference is expected to be a learning and networking haven, paving the way for stronger cross-border business relationships.
