The Vreed-en-Hoop Shore Base Inc. (VEHSI) is accommodating the largest cargo ship to dock in the Demerara River, the MV Virtuous Striker, marking a milestone in the development of Guyana’s port and shipping facilities.
The shore base, spreading over 44 acres, is currently playing host to Guyana’s heftiest shipment of cargo— a massive stone aggregate weighing 26,900 metric tons supplied by the Striker, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar said in a Facebook post. This achievement was facilitated using an 8-meter quayside draft within a newly dredged section of the Demerara River.

Nicholas Deygoo-Boyer, a Director at VEHSI, along with his team, recently facilitated a tour of the shorebase for Indar. Accompanying the government official was the Director General of the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), Capt. Stephen Thomas, among other officials from the maritime authority.
Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of Guyana, noted the commercial debut of the MV Virtuous Striker, measuring 190 meters in length, at the shore base.
This operational success of the VEHSI project, spearheaded by NRG Holdings Inc., aligns with the scheduled timeline for the completion of its first phase, in the current quarter. NRG Holdings owners, Andron Alphonso and Nicholas Deygoo-Boyer, are partnered with Belgium’s Jan De Nul, for this project. This consortium was awarded a contract by ExxonMobil to support its Yellowtail project.
