Petrobras has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Norwegian company Shearwater to advance scientific research and technological innovation in seismic processing and acquisition. 

The agreement aims to enhance data quality and acquisition efficiency, essential for mapping oil fields. The five-year MOU supports both companies in developing cutting-edge technologies that improve seabed data and reduce time and costs in seismic projects.

“This cooperation reinforces our continued engagement in geophysical innovation, thereby accelerating the exploration and development of energy resources,” said Roberta Alves, General Manager of R&D, I in Exploration and Production at Petrobras Research Center (Cenpes), during the signing in Norway. 

“By leveraging advanced technologies together, we aim to significantly improve geophysical technologies and achieve superior operational efficiency, ultimately driving innovation,” she added.

Shearwater’s Chief Executive Officer, Irene Basili, expressed excitement about the partnership with Petrobras, “a company that shares our commitment to seismic research and innovation.”

“Shearwater is a company driven by curiosity and a desire to answer questions, and we share a strong commitment to jointly solving big challenges and thereby creating long-term value for businesses and society at large,” Basili added.

Petrobras, globally recognized for its innovative technologies, plans to invest US$3.6 billion in Research, Development, and Innovation from 2024 to 2028, the largest in its history.
