El Dorado Offshore, in collaboration with Noble Corporation and MATPAL Marine Institute, announced on November 4, the opening of applications for the Noble Marine Cadet Program, an initiative aimed at empowering young Guyanese for careers in the country’s energy sector.
El Dorado said the program reflects a commitment to nurturing talent through a combination of rigorous academic and practical training, offering pathways for aspiring deck and engineering cadets.
The four-year program includes 18 months of classroom instruction and 18 months of offshore training, providing participants with both theoretical grounding and practical experience. Cadets will benefit from full tuition support and mentorship from experienced professionals, eliminating financial concerns to allow for focus on their training.
To maintain eligibility, participants must uphold a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 and attend at least 85% of all classroom and offshore sessions. El Dorado said that these standards are designed to produce well-prepared graduates capable of assuming essential roles in offshore operations.
To support applications, El Dorado will conduct outreach sessions at various technical institutions, beginning with the New Amsterdam Technical Institute on November 25, followed by Linden Technical Institute on November 27, and Essequibo Technical Institute on November 29. These sessions will provide program details, application assistance, and a demonstration of a mobile app developed to streamline the application process.
Applications are open from November 4 until December 31, 2024, with shortlisted candidates set to be announced in late January 2025.
El Dorado, Noble and MATPAL last graduated cadets from the program in May. Noble also last year sent two Guyanese nationals to study maritime transportation at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. It is among several international companies operating in Guyana’s oil and gas sector that have provided scholarships and training opportunities for locals.
