Staatsolie has announced that two key exploration wells – Caiman-1 and Kiskadee-1 – will be drilled in Suriname’s Block 52 during the second half of 2025. PETRONAS is the operator of the block.

“These wells will test prospects within the ‘golden lane’,” Staatsolie said. Suriname’s golden lane refers to a geologically favorable area offshore for oil and gas accumulation.

The state oil company noted that a total of at least four wells are expected to be drilled this year. In Block 5, which is operated by Chevron, the Korikori-1 well will be drilled. The Araku Deep-1 well will also be drilled in Block 65, where Shell is the operator. Both are located outside of the ‘golden lane’.

Staatsolie said, “Success of the exploration drilling program could potentially lead to new oil and gas plays in the long term.” It added that 2025 “could potentially be a very important one for further growth of the offshore oil and gas industry in Suriname.”
