According to information from the President’s office, Staatsolie’s onshore and offshore drilling activities, progress in developing existing oil fields, and the company’s dividend policy were key points in the discussions. Sustainable energy initiatives were discussed, focusing particularly on an ongoing solar energy project. Patrick Brunings, the Minister of Oil, Gas & Environment, emphasized the need to plan for Suriname’s energy future beyond oil.

While the current solar project marks a step forward, Brunings noted that a comprehensive long-term vision for renewable energy is still needed. “When oil supplies run out, we will need to explore alternative energy sources together and assess the role Staatsolie can play in this transition,” he said.

Minister of Finance and Planning Adelien Wijnerman and Minister Adelien Wijnerman of Natural Resources Adelien Wijnerman also attended the meeting, reflecting on the strategic importance of Staatsolie in Suriname’s economic planning and resource management.

President Geerlings-Simons highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration to align Staatsolie’s operations with the country’s financial goals and broader energy transition agenda. She expressed optimism about future discussions on these strategic themes.
