The need for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers is creating new demand for reliable electricity, with developers increasingly seeking alternatives to traditional grid connections.
SLB and Liberty Energy have formed an alliance to provide modular infrastructure and power generation solutions aimed at supporting data center projects that require faster deployment timelines.

Announced by SLB on July 14, the partnership combines SLBās modular infrastructure and project execution capabilities with Libertyās power generation systems and energy management technologies.
The companies will focus on behind-the-meter power solutions, which allow data centers to generate and manage electricity on-site rather than depending entirely on the public grid.

The partnership builds on the companiesā experience supporting large-scale industrial operations. SLB, best known for its oilfield services, has expanded into modular infrastructure and industrial energy solutions, while Liberty has developed expertise in distributed power generation and energy management.
Liberty Chief Executive Officer Ron Gusek said AI infrastructure requirements are changing how power systems are developed.

SLB said it has delivered more than 1.3 gigawatts of prefabricated modular infrastructure for data center projects since April 2024 and expects deliveries to exceed 2 gigawatts globally by the end of 2026.
Liberty plans to deploy approximately 3 gigawatts of power projects by 2029.
