Global energy technology company SLB and Qualcomm Technologies have signed a memorandum of understanding t(MOU) to develop edge artificial intelligence solutions aimed at improving real-time decision-making across oil and gas operations.
The agreement, announced by SLB on June 9, combines Qualcomm Technologies’ low-power edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI) processing capabilities with SLB’s Agora edge AI and Internet of Things solutions for use in remote and operationally complex energy environments.

“Many energy operations rely on real-time decision-making in remote environments where connectivity and responsiveness directly affect performance. AI systems designed around the realities of energy operations can help support more consistent and autonomous workflows across those environments,” Rakesh Jaggi, President of Digital Operations at SLB, said.
The collaboration comes as energy operators increasingly adopt automation and autonomous workflows across wells, production facilities, and field operations.
SLB said the partnership will focus on deploying AI closer to equipment and operational workflows rather than relying solely on centralized systems.

“Many industrial environments require AI systems that can operate with limited power, constrained connectivity, separation between operational technology and information technology environments, and real-time operational demands… helping enable edge intelligence for new use cases and supporting progress toward more autonomous workflows,” Nakul Duggal, EVP and Group GM, Automotive, Industrial and Embedded IoT, and Robotics at Qualcomm Technologies, said.
SLB has established a significant presence in Guyana, providing a range of oilfield services to support offshore developments in the Stabroek Block.
The company supplies technologies and services across drilling, well construction, completions, production, and digital solutions, supporting major projects led by ExxonMobil Guyana and its co-venturers.
