Chevron has made an oil and gas condensate discovery at an exploration well offshore Angola, where drilling encountered a hydrocarbon column of more than 600 meters (2,000 feet).
The discovery was confirmed on August 17 by Chevron subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC) at the 105-4X well in Block 0, in the Lower Congo Basin in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
“This discovery is another important milestone for Chevron’s over 70-year history in Angola,” Chevron Vice President of Exploration Kevin McLachlan said.

The well encountered more than 90 meters (300 feet) of net pay in the Pinda reservoir, with Chevron reporting good reservoir quality.
The company will now assess whether the discovery can be developed as a tie-back to nearby existing facilities. Using existing infrastructure could provide a faster and lower-cost route to production.
“By combining high-impact exploration with infrastructure-led opportunities close to existing facilities, we are growing our resource base, creating value, and demonstrating that our strategy is delivering, as well as our continued confidence in Angola’s resource potential,” McLachlan stated.
Block 0 is operated by CABGOC, which holds a 39.2% working interest. Sonangol E&P holds 41%, TotalEnergies 10%, and Azule Energy 9.8%.
The discovery comes as Chevron expands exploration across Sub-Saharan Africa. The company currently produces about 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net in the region.
In Nigeria, Chevron has added offshore acreage and recorded three near-field exploration successes since late 2024. The company has also secured additional acreage in Guinea-Bissau and reconnaissance licenses in Equatorial Guinea.
In Angola, Chevron is continuing exploration in Blocks 49 and 50, Block 33 and Block 14/23. The company is also preparing a multi-well exploration program across the region, including the Nabba-1X well on Namibia’s PEL90, planned before the end of 2026.
