The Errea Wittu floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel features artificial intelligence-enabled systems and power-generation technology designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance safety and reduce emissions, according to MODEC.

The AI-enabled systems are designed to predict equipment failures and improve process safety, while the FPSO’s gas turbine combined cycle system is intended to improve power-generation efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

The FPSO arrived in Guyana on August 21 and will undergo final offshore preparations and commissioning ahead of first oil. Built for ExxonMobil, the vessel will support development of the Snoek, Mako and Uaru resources in the Stabroek Block.

“The construction of the FPSO is based on MODEC’s new-built hull design, featuring a full double hull and a larger topsides deck area to accommodate high-capacity processing systems… MODEC is working closely with its client and local stakeholders to ensure the safe, efficient integration of the vessel into Guyana’s offshore operations,” the company said on August 24.

MODEC said these technologies and design features are intended to enhance reliability and support long-term productivity while minimizing the vessel’s environmental footprint.

MODEC said Errea Wittu “reflects its continued commitment to delivering offshore energy solutions safely, reliably, sustainably, and with industry-leading performance.”

The vessel is expected to operate about 200 kilometers offshore Guyana in 1,690 meters of water. It will use MODEC’s SOFEC® spread mooring system and have crude oil storage capacity of about 2 million barrels.

Errea Wittu is designed to produce 250,000 barrels of oil per day, with Uaru start-up scheduled before the end of 2026. Its production capacity is expected to push Guyana’s total output beyond one million barrels per day.
