Guyana’s regulatory authorities will investigate a small fire aboard the Liza Unity floating production, storage, and offloading vessel, the Ministry of Natural Resources said on August 24.
The incident occurred on August 23 in the laundry room of the vessel’s living quarters. ExxonMobil Guyana Limited reported that heat detectors were activated, indicating a small fire.
The fire was quickly extinguished. The appropriate response procedures were immediately initiated, and all personnel were confirmed safe and accounted for.
“The relevant regulatory authorities will conduct the necessary follow-up to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the ministry said.
ExxonMobil in a statement said that operations were suspended as part of the response. The company said operations would resume after checks were completed.
The ministry said it would remain in close contact with ExxonMobil and the relevant regulatory agencies as the incident is reviewed.
“The ministry remains committed to prioritising the safety and well-being of workers and ensuring the highest standards of safety across offshore operations,” it said.
Liza Unity operates at the Liza Phase 2 development in the Stabroek Block, offshore Guyana. It is one of four FPSOs producing oil in the country and has a production capacity of about 270,000 barrels per day.
