Baker Hughes has been awarded significant contracts by Petrobras to supply 77 kilometers of flexible pipe systems for Brazil’s pre-salt fields. The agreements, signed on October 15, 2024, followed an open tender and cover risers, flowlines, and services across the Búzios, Libra, Berbigão, Sururu, and Sépia fields.

The multi-year project will support hydrocarbon production, gas and water injection, as well as equipment storage, maintenance, and installation. Delivery is set to start in mid-2026.

The flexible pipe systems are designed to address stress-induced corrosion cracking from CO2 (SCC-CO2), a challenge in high-CO2 deepwater environments. Petrobras aims to use these systems for CO2 reinjection to curb flaring and reduce emissions, aligning with its commitment to producing lower-carbon barrels.

“Brazil’s Santos Basin contains incredible potential to help power Latin America into the future,” said Amerino Gatti, executive vice president, Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes. “Operating in deep waters with high CO2 concentrations presents unique challenges. Baker Hughes’ combination of industry-leading subsea technology and engineering, expertise in offshore operations, and extensive experience in the region will assist Petrobras to unlock and develop this potential, delivering these vital resources safely and efficiently.”

Baker Hughes has a long history in Brazil’s offshore oil and gas sector, with its Niteroi plant serving as a key supplier of flexible pipe systems. The company’s involvement in recent contracts, including an additional 69.1 km of flexible pipes and services earlier in 2024, underscores its role in strengthening Brazil’s energy supply chain.

Baker Hughes has been one of ExxonMobil’s prime contractors for its operations in Guyana’s Stabroek Block. The company operates out of a supercentre facility at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara.
