U.S oil industry company Baker Hughes has been targeting Guyanese students with its internship programme which is designed to enable those pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree to gain hands-on work experience.
“Our internships will give you first-hand insights into the processes, systems and practices that are aligned to ensure customer needs are met through flawless execution and the application of leading-edge technology,” the company said in a description of the programme seen by OilNOW for summer opportunities 2022.
Participants will take part in focused training, team meetings, work on projects and present their results. During the internship they will be supported by a buddy and manager who will ensure they have a valuable learning experience.
Participants will also have the opportunity to become familiar with Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) and the culture of Baker Hughes.
Interns will be responsible for completing internal projects to deliver customer outcomes and identify business improvements, learning internal software to assist with the completion of projects and tasks, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and interns to interact and network with global business leaders. They will also be responsible for applying Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) standards and procedures in all situations to ensure compliance is maintained and receiving coaching and mentoring to complete assignments and projects to develop their learning and skillset.
To be successful participants must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s level degree Engineering, Technology, Mechanics or other STEM related program, have maintained a GPA grade greater than or equal to 3.0 out of 4.0 or equivalent, be fluent in oral and written English and have effective communication skills. Participants must also have the legal right to work without restrictions or company sponsorship in the country they have applied and must be able to relocate for the duration of their internship.
