Guyana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said Minister Hugh Todd had a telephone call with his Cypriot counterpart, during which, “unwavering support” was expressed to Guyana in the border controversy with Venezuela.

Dr. Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, followed up with Todd on discussions the two sides had on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly which were aimed at boosting cooperation between the two countries.

Todd reportedly also affirmed Guyana’s strong support for Cyprus’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Both ministers agreed to continue advancing political dialogue and pursuing mutually beneficial objectives in the interest of both countries and working closely during Guyana’s tenure on the United Nations Security Council.

Tensions have eased somewhat between Guyana and Venezuela in recent weeks, following the signing of a declaration by the two countries in December, to maintain peace.
