Strohm, a composite pipe company, has successfully installed its first deepwater/high-pressure thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) jumper in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana. The installation marks the adoption of Strohm’s innovative “Jumper on Demand” approach and its effectiveness in enhancing operational efficiency.

The newly installed jumper, composed of advanced carbon fiber and polyamide 12 materials, has been deployed for ExxonMobil Guyana at the Liza field. This technology is integral for water alternating gas (WAG) injection and was situated at depths exceeding 1,700 metres.

The Liza field is currently being developed with two production vessels – the Liza Destiny and Liza Unity floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units.

Strohm said its recent achievement builds on its strategic contracts for the Uaru and Yellowtail developments. The company secured contracts for the supply of 50 WAG TCP Jumpers across these two campaigns. This was facilitated by Strohm’s unique “Jumpers on Demand” strategy, where a single pipe length is delivered on a single reel to the client’s location. The pipe is then customised to the desired jumper length, terminated, tested, and connected to a connector system.

The establishment of Strohm’s Field Service Group has further bolstered its capabilities. The group had secured a service contract for onsite termination operations in-country, fulfilling the termination scopes of work for the pre-first oil phase for the Yellowtail project.

Gavin Leiper, Vice President Americas at Strohm and leader of the Field Service Group, said Strohm’s approach is advantageous. “Our approach minimises transportation cost, maximises local content, and reduces the total cost of installation as well as lowering carbon footprint. This approach is proving extremely successful with multiple projects ongoing and completed around the globe. Strohm’s specialist field service technicians mobilise to the client’s location as the jumper termination campaigns are called off over the duration of the deployment programme.”

Strohm markets its TCP jumper as offering additional benefits such as streamlined installation, minimising time to first oil, and reducing overall costs. The flexibility to perform terminations locally adds redundancy and mitigates project schedule risks. The company said its solutions provide operators with corrosion-free and field-proven alternatives, ultimately contributing to reduced CO2 footprints in pipeline infrastructure.

In conjunction with its achievement for ExxonMobil Guyana, Strohm’s “Jumper on Demand” service has seen the successful deployment of 25 TCP solutions across various locations.
