Youth Challenge Guyana (YCG) said on Monday its long-standing partnership with ExxonMobil Guyana continues and will see another group of young men and boys from South Turkeyen and surrounding communities benefitting from technical training and mentorship.
Last year’s programme was implemented successfully under the theme “Bringing the Best out in Young Men and Boys”, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maintaining the theme, a new group aged 16-30 will commence training on September 27 for six weeks at the Volunteer Youth Corps, Durban Backlands, Georgetown.
Main features of this training include employable technical skills, hands-on experience through internships, and mentoring, various interactive and experiential life skill sessions during this period which will focus on human rights, gender awareness, self-awareness, interacting with law enforcement, leadership and conflict resolution, personal finance, and entrepreneurship.
YCG’s Executive Director Dmitri Nicholson said, “our ongoing relationship with ExxonMobil Guyana continues to help improve the value of Guyanese youths towards creating more resilient communities.”
YCG has established relationships with private companies to provide internships. The organisation said this has been proven highly beneficial to participants as they were exposed to industrial hands-on experience, established lasting careers, gained organizational operation knowledge and the ability to network. Similarly, this will be offered to another batch of young men and boys to develop the skills required for a rounded professional.
YCG continues to work towards bridging the gaps to increase the support provided to young males, and guard against anti-social behaviors and other violent practices. The organization focuses on creating opportunities for youth, and communities to effect positive local social change. YCG supports the development of young men and boys in various capacities that will empower them and help them become productive members of their communities.
