ExxonMobil Guyana has spent more than US$3.6 billion (approx. GY$750.6 billion) with local suppliers to date, with a record US$700 million (approx. GY$145.95 billion) paid in 2025 alone, President Alistair Routledge announced on day 2 of the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo.

“It is symbolic of our investment in the people,” Routledge said. “But it is also symbolic of the partnership that the Minister of Natural Resources talked about that is so fundamental to our success here in Guyana.”

“That partnership extends to the local supply chain,” he added.

Routledge said the figures were recently updated. “In 2025 alone, that represented US$700 million, a new record.”

In January 2026, Guyana’s Local Content Secretariat disclosed that approximately 33% of Guyanese employed in the country’s oil and gas sector hold professional-level positions, while about 18% work in technical or associate professional roles.

To date, over 1,200 Guyanese businesses have been registered with the Secretariat, and over US$2 billion in goods and services have been procured from Guyanese companies and nationals within the 40 sectors as prescribed in Guyana’s Local Content Act.

The ExxonMobil President noted the growth in the number of local companies supporting operations. “We may get over 2000 local suppliers,” he said.

Routledge said the company is also advancing major offshore projects to sustain production growth and local spending is central to ExxonMobil’s strategy. “This is critical, the investment in the people, the investment in the local supply chain, the investment in strategic infrastructure,” he said. “Building tomorrow’s future today.”
