ExxonMobil Guyana wants local companies to play a larger role across the full fabrication value chain as offshore activity expands.
The company’s Production Manager, Huzefa Ali, made the statement during a ceremony marking the completion of the first floating production, storage and offloading vessel process piping fabrication scope completed in Guyana by Guyanese workers for the local energy sector The high-pressure process pipes were fabricated at Friedlander’s facility for the Water Injection Riser Depressurization project on the Liza Unity floating production, storage and offloading vessel.
Ali said ExxonMobil Guyana has been working to support the development of local fabrication capacity as its operations grow.
“Our fundamental goal was clear to support the development of [a] capable fabrication sector that can support Guyana’s growing oil and gas industry and create capability opportunity even beyond that,” Ali said.
He said ExxonMobil Guyana issued a fabrication market survey in late 2024 to identify local fabrication facilities. That was followed by industry discussions led by ExxonMobil Guyana and SBM Offshore at the 2025 Guyana Energy Conference. SBM Offshore later issued a market bid to qualify several local fabrication shops. Friedlander became the first local facility to meet the required yard qualifications.
He said local workshops are expected to support more offshore maintenance and brownfield work over time “reducing the dependence on international logistics and international capability over time.”
Ali said ExxonMobil Guyana wants that capability to grow beyond fabrication.

“Let me be clear, our ambition is to close the entire loop right here in Guyana,” he said. “We see a future where local companies play a leading role across the entire fabrication value chain, from manufacturing to offshore installation, fully integrated into the industry’s long-term presence and growth right here in Guyana.”
ExxonMobil Guyana is currently producing oil from four floating production, storage and offloading vessels in the Stabroek Block: Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, Prosperity, and ONE GUYANA. Additional developments have been approved, creating growing demand for fabrication, maintenance, and offshore support services.
