ExxonMobil Guyana said in an update on Wednesday that the flash gas compressor that was sent to Germany for repairs after encountering technical issues in January is now making its way back to the South American country.

“The flash gas compressor and silencers of the Liza Destiny FPSO have departed Germany for Guyana after completing necessary repairs, upgrades and mechanical testing at the MAN Energy Solutions workshop,” Public and Government Affairs Advisor, Janelle Persaud said. “Teams in Guyana continue to progress preparation for the arrival and installation offshore. Operations continue to safely manage production and flare levels.”

The gas compressor had encountered difficulties on the Liza Destiny FPSO during oil production operations on January 27. A detailed assessment found that an axial vibration of the compressor rotor was the initiating event that led to the issues.
