A memorandum of understanding (MOU) is on the cards for the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) to tackle issues that hinder investment in Guyana. High on the agenda, is the lack of digitised operations and businesses in Guyana’s market.
New GCCI president, Kester Huston and members of the Executive Management Committee recently met with US Ambassador Sarah-Ann Lynch who both expressed the importance of digitisation of business and Guyana’s governmental services.
According to Lynch, this remains one of the main obstacles in encouraging US businesses to invest in Guyana. The Chamber, she posited, can play a role in helping to solve this issue.
And this is right up Hutson’s alley. The new GCCI president has a background in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). He noted that US companies can help Guyana to craft the required system.
From the government’s end, it is pursuing a new single window system to eliminate unnecessary red tape from the planning and development of projects. Guyana’s Central Planning and Housing Authority (CH&PA) will act as the sole point of application. It is expected to be online by early July 2023.
