The Greater Guyana Initiative (GGI), a US$100 million investment by Stabroek Block co-venturers ExxonMobil Guyana, Hess Guyana Exploration, and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana, is inviting proposals from civil society organizations as part of its ongoing capacity development program in Guyana.

“Applying to the Greater Guyana Initiative (GGI) represents more than an opportunity to receive funding—it is an invitation to partner in shaping Guyana’s sustainable development future,” GGI Lead Alicia Bess-Anderson said, noting that the call goes beyond funding support.

The initiative spans 10 years and focuses on education and training, economic development, and health. It is designed to support workforce development, improve the competitiveness of local businesses, and strengthen the country’s broader development framework.

Under the current call, funding is available for projects valued at up to US$100,000, with an emphasis on smaller-scale, community-driven initiatives.

Bess-Anderson said organizations are being encouraged to bring forward practical solutions. “Through the GGI Call for Proposals, civil society organizations are encouraged to put forward innovative, community-driven solutions that expand reach, strengthen local capacity, and deliver long-term impact nationwide,” she shared.

The program is funded by the Stabroek Block co-venturers and forms part of their long-term investment in Guyana’s development. It also includes access to technical and strategic support to help projects scale.

“The initiative made possible through investments by the Stabroek Block Co Venturers—ExxonMobil, HESS and CNOOC is designed to provide not only financial support, but also the strategic resources necessary to scale meaningful interventions thereby supporting Guyana’s evolving development needs,” Bess-Anderson said.

She added that the approach places local organizations at the center of development efforts, noting “By empowering local organizations to lead development efforts, GGI aims to foster inclusive growth and resilient communities across Guyana.”

As the initiative progresses, engagement with national stakeholders, community groups and the private sector is expected to guide implementation and ensure alignment with Guyana’s development priorities.
