SBM Offshore Guyana and MODEC Guyana were recognized for their contributions to national development and workforce expansion at the Guyana Oil and Gas Energy Chamber’s (GOGEC) 2025 Annual Awards and Induction Dinner on November 28.
SBM Offshore Guyana received the Excellence in Offshore Operations and National Development Award. GOGEC said the company has set “industry benchmarks in safety, efficiency, and innovation through its dedicated offshore and onshore workforce.”
SBM Offshore’s Local Content Lead Garri Fraser accepted the award from Guyana’s Prime Minister, Ret’d Brigadier Mark Phillips.
With four floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels operating in the Stabroek Block – Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, Prosperity and ONE GUYANA – SBM Offshore supports production of about 900,000 barrels of oil per day.
The company was the first of ExxonMobil’s prime contractors to secure approval for its Local Content Master Plan from Guyana’s Local Content Secretariat. That approval opened the door for broader engagement with Guyanese suppliers, increased national hiring and expansion of its sustainability, training and capacity-building programs.
MODEC Guyana also received top honors, taking home GOGEC’s Strategic Local Content and Capacity Builder Award. The Chamber highlighted MODEC’s “commitment to local talent development through our Offshore Trainee Programme and ongoing efforts to build a highly skilled Guyanese talent pool for Guyana’s energy future.”
Prime Minister Phillips presented the award to Tiffany Hytimah, MODEC’s Human Resources Coordinator in Guyana. At the same event, Rafael Fumis, the company’s Country Manager, received a Certificate of Induction marking MODEC’s membership in the Chamber since January 2025.
MODEC runs an Offshore Technical Trainee Program and a complementary onshore training initiative launched with eight Guyanese in its first cohort. In 2024, it introduced an internship program giving university students experience in supply chain, human resources, legal and compliance.
MODEC holds engineering, procurement, construction and installation contracts for ExxonMobil’s Uaru and Hammerhead FPSOs, which will help lift Stabroek Block’s output to a projected 1.7 million barrels per day by 2030.
