Sometime this year, ExxonMobil Guyana is expected to submit the Field Development Plan (FPD) for its Hammerhead project – the 7th proposed development for the Stabroek Block.

President Alistair Routledge shared this during his recent appearance on the Energy Perspectives podcast. With Hammerhead, Exxon aims to produce 150,000 barrels per day (b/d).

“We’ve now been bringing and developing the concept for the [Hammerhead] development and as you were aware, in 2024 we commenced the environmental permitting process and we anticipate in 2025 that we’ll submit the field development plan [and] work closely with the EPA [environmental protection agency] and the government on the approval process,” he said.

Hammerhead will be utilizing a converted unit for its floating, production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), the first since the Liza Destiny.

The FPSO is expected to be smaller, seen as the most efficient to develop the resource.

The Hammerhead discovery was announced in August 2018, the ninth in the Stabroek Block. Hammerhead-1 was drilled in a new reservoir, encountering approximately 197 feet (60 meters) of high-quality, oil-bearing sandstone reservoir. The well was safely drilled to 13,862 feet (4,225 meters) depth in 3,773 feet (1,150 meters) of water. Exxon had contemplated Hammerhead for its fourth project but ultimately went with Yellowtail.

First oil is targeted for 2029.

Exxon has a 45% stake in the Stabroek Block while Hess Corporation holds 30% and CNOOC holds 25%.
