US oil major ExxonMobil is ramping up its search for more oil off the Guyana coast with the spudding of the Pluma prospect approximately 17 miles (27 kilometers) from Turbot in the South portion of the 6.6 million acres Stabroek Block.
ExxonMobil Guyana Senior Director, Public and Government Affairs, Deedra Moe told OilNOW on Friday that Pluma was spudded on November 1, making it the 12th exploration well drilled to date offshore Guyana.
“With every well, we learn and gain a better understanding of the geology in the Block, helping us focus on the areas of best potential prospects,” Moe said.
The oil major has been getting it right for the most part so far with 11 exploration wells drilled prior to the current campaign, resulting in 9 discoveries amounting to more than 4 billion barrels of oil.
The Noble Tom Madden, which arrived in Guyana a week ago, spudded Pluma. The 752 ft drillship will continue its search for oil offshore the South American country through December.
