The fourth annual Local Content Summit will open today with a focus on helping businesses better understand Guyana’s local content framework, sector entry requirements, workforce needs, and opportunities tied to the country’s petroleum sector.
The two-day summit will be held from June 2-3 at the Houston Event Center, Four Points Sheraton Hotel, under the theme “From Policy to Prosperity. Unlocking Opportunities Through Collaboration.”
Organizers said the sessions and roundtable discussions were developed to give companies practical guidance on entering or operating in the sector. They said the summit will also point businesses to investment initiatives that could help them diversify, expand, and pursue partnerships.
The agenda will cover Guyana’s petroleum outlook, the evolution of the local content framework, financing for local participation, workforce development, and opportunities beyond the oil and gas sector.
President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali is expected to deliver the keynote address at the opening plenary. The speaker lineup also includes government ministers, oil and gas industry leaders, contractors, private sector representatives, and business support organizations.
The June 2 agenda includes sessions on the direction of Guyana’s petroleum sector, the evolution of the local content framework, and a technical briefing by the Local Content Secretariat. The first day will also cover the financial ecosystem needed to support local content participation, along with industry insights and outlook.
A roundtable discussion will also be held on advocacy matters affecting the business community.
The June 3 agenda will focus on the workforce ecosystem needed to support local content participation. It will also examine opportunities beyond the oil and gas sector and across the wider economy.
A strategic roundtable discussion will address Guyana’s national skills and capacity gap. The program includes time for audience questions to speakers.
The summit is organized by Abigail Loncke-Watson, CEO of MBW, and Anita Ramprasad, CEO of Prestige Management Consultants. The organizers described the event as a public-private partnership involving government and companies in the local private sector. They also said it is a joint venture between two 100% Guyanese women-owned companies.
The summit is being supported by several sponsors and support partners, including MODEC, Bono Energy, Sispro, Gulf Engineering Services (Guyana), Baker Hughes, Noble Corporation, Stena Drilling, Suregig, Marlog Guyana, Kairos Events, Jai Signs, Pulse Entertainment, BPI, Action Invest, and the Centre for Local Business Development.
