MatPal Maritime Institute to host oil and gas career forum

Guyana’s MatPal Maritime Institute (MPMI) will be hosting a Career Forum to inform the public of training and employment opportunities within the oil and gas and maritime industry.

The forum will take place on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Critchlow Labour College Auditorium in Georgetown.

Following welcome and opening remarks by Mrs. Coleen Abrams, CEO – MatPal Marine Institute, there will be an overview of MatPal’s Training Portfolio by Captain Tulsie Bissessar, Advisor/Lecturer – MatPal Marine. Thereafter, Mr. Eon Stephens – Guyana Stakeholder Liaison Advisor, Tullow – Guyana Office will make a presentation to be followed by presentations from Mr. Andy Shewram, Human Resources Manager – Edison Chouest Offshore LLC (G-Boats); Mr. Kevin Dalgarno – Academy Manager, TOTALTEC/IPMA and Mr. Renger Van Dijk, Managing Director – General Equipment and Farm Supplies Limited (GENEQUIP).

The keynote speaker at the Forum will be Capt. Jim Henshaw of Edison Chouest Offshore (G-Boats), who possesses over 25 years of experience in the Merchant Marine and US Coast Guard.

“This Forum will also educate the public on the success of our Deck and Engine Maritime Cadet Programmes and their relevance to the Oil and Gas Industry, among other maritime courses conducted through MatPal Marine Institute,” the institute said.

MatPal says it has successfully trained numerous persons within the maritime industry of Guyana and around the Caribbean “and has earned a reputation for excellence in the delivery of a vital service.”  It said on average, in excess of one hundred participants spanning both the deck and engine room departments are certified every year.
