Petrobras advances natural gas exploration in Colombia with Uchuva-2 well

Petrobras has reached a key milestone with the Uchuva-2 well, confirming the natural gas discovery initially made in 2022 with Uchuva-1. 

Located 31 km offshore Colombia at a water depth of 804 meters, Uchuva-2 was spudded on June 19 and is currently in progress with five phases.

In phase four, a gas-bearing interval was verified through wireline logging, and further laboratory analyses will characterize it. Petrobras, with a 44.44% working interest, and Ecopetrol, holding 55.56%, are working together to complete the well to the expected depth. 

A formation test is planned by the end of 2024.

Petrobras said the development aligns with its’ strategy to replenish oil and gas reserves and explore new frontiers, ensuring global energy demands are met during the energy transition.
