ExxonMobil has awarded contracts to SBM Offshore to build and deploy the Jaguar floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for the Whiptail development at Guyana’s Stabroek Block.

Under the terms of the agreement, ownership of the Jaguar vessel will be transferred to ExxonMobil Guyana Limited (EMGL) before its installation in Guyana. SBM Offshore anticipates operating the FPSO for a decade under the operations and maintenance enabling agreement inked in 2023.

The design of the Jaguar  FPSO is grounded on SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward program, featuring the company’s seventh new build, multi-purpose floater hull and standardized topside modules.

SBM Offshore was hired last year to perform front end engineering and design (FEED) for the project.

Designed to produce 250,000 barrels of oil per day, the FPSO will have gas treatment capacity of 540 million cubic feet per day and water injection capacity of 300,000 barrels per day. It will be anchored in water approximately 1,630 meters deep and have a storage capacity of around two million barrels of crude oil.

The award follows the successful completion of front-end engineering and design studies, acquisition of necessary government approvals, and the final investment decision on the project by ExxonMobil and its Stabroek Block co-venturers.

The Whiptail development marks the sixth project within the Stabroek Block.

ExxonMobil Guyana Limited is the operator and holds a 45% interest in the Stabroek Block, with Hess Guyana Exploration holding 30% interest and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana holding 25% interest.
