Norwegian marine geosciences company Shearwater is deploying its Amazon Warrior vessel for a 150-day, 6,042 sq km 3D seismic survey for Petronas in Suriname’s offshore Blocks 63 and 52.
The operation will cover areas in the Suriname Basin, southeast of Shell’s Block 42.
This survey follows significant developments in Suriname’s oil sector.
In October, TotalEnergies and APA Corporation approved a US$10.5 billion project to develop 750 million barrels of oil from the Sapakara and Krabdagu fields, 150 km offshore. Dubbed GranMorgu, the project targets first oil by 2028, with water depths ranging from 325 to 3,250 feet.
GranMorgu recently secured major contracts.
Saipem won a US$1.9 billion deal for subsea development, while SBM Offshore will construct and install a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel with a 220,000 b/d capacity.
Last November, PETRONAS hit pay at the Roystonea-1 exploration well in Block 52.
In addition to Block 52, PETRONAS Suriname also operates Block 48 with a 100% participating interest and holds a 30% non-operating participating interest in the adjacent Block 53, where the Baja-1 oil discovery was made in 2022.
