Surinamese graduates participating in the training program linked to the GranMorgu offshore oil development met with SBM Offshore’s CEO Øivind Tangen on May 12, 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The graduates are part of the STS Graduate Program, launched earlier this year by STS – the joint venture between SBM Offshore, Technip Energies and Suriname. The 19-month program is designed to prepare the graduates for future roles in the offshore energy industry tied to the GranMorgu floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) project.

TotalEnergies expands Suriname local content efforts with teacher safety training initiative
The program comes as developing local content and workforce nationalization remain key priorities for Suriname’s offshore oil and gas sector ahead of first oil from the GranMorgu development.
The meeting with Tangen took place during Life Day, an annual company-wide event in which employees, contractors and partners focus on health, safety, security, environmental stewardship and wellbeing. SBM Offshore said these areas are expected to remain central to future GranMorgu operations.
The GranMorgu project, located in Block 58 offshore Suriname, is being developed by TotalEnergies and APA Corporation in partnership with Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V.
First oil is targeted for 2028.
