Merely days after the Errea Wittu FPSO arrived in Singapore for the next stage of construction, builder MODEC marked the opening of its permanent office in Guyana.

Errea Wittu is meant for Guyana’s 5th oil development Uaru.

Keeping with the theme of using indigenous names, the company’s new home was described as one “thoughtfully designed” and “modern” that reflects functionality and cultural association. It features six meeting rooms, name paying homage to Guyana’s indigenous people.

According to MODEC’s Country Manager Rafael Fumis shared that the company’s team has grown to 40 persons. But this scope will soon expand.

“By next year, including our offshore crew, we expect to be more than 230 strong. This new office is built to support that growth and foster the next chapter of our journey,” he told the gathering.

ExxonMobil Guyana President Alistair Routledge praised MODEC’s move, deeming it one that deepens the company’s role in Guyana’s development.

“Think of it as a symbolic opening…[because] what is important…is the investment in the people, in the country [and] the investment in local companies,” Routledge shared.

Guyana’s Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Oneidge Walrond delivered the feature address on behalf of President Irfaan Ali.

“This is a sign that our oil and gas industry is not just pumping oil, but pumping confidence, attracting world class investment and opening new doors for our people and our country,” she said.

Oneidge shared that the arrival of companies like MODEC in Guyana “matters” as it signals the expansion of opportunities for Guyanese.

“In every contract they win, Guyanese suppliers are pulled into the global value chain. Every vessel they operate, Guyanese engineers, safety officers, logistics coordinators and technicians get to learn, earn and grow,” she added.

MODEC already has a training programme being executed for Guyanese engineers and technicians.

The Uaru development for which the Errea Wittu is being built is the fifth project approved offshore Guyana, valued at US$12.7 billion. It targets more than 800 million barrels of oil. The project will include up to 10 drill centers and 44 wells, with an initial production goal of 250,000 barrels per day by 2026.
