McDermott International, Inc. has further expanded its involvement in one of India’s most significant subsea projects by securing a large transportation and installation contract from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for the KG-DWN-98/2 development project. This development is situated off the east coast of India.

McDermott categorizes contracts as large when they are valued between US$50 million and US$250 million.

The newly awarded contract will see McDermott carry out critical transportation and installation duties for a central processing platform (CPP) and associated living quarters. The CPP’s key role upon installation will be to process wet gas, after which it will transport the processed material to an onshore terminal, signifying a critical juncture in the project’s life cycle.

McDermott’s latest contract is an addendum to its pre-existing commitments under the KG-DWN-98/2 project, which is considered one of the largest subsea projects in India. The initial contract, procured in 2018 and now approaching its final stages, encompasses an integrated subsea package. This package includes the provision of all subsea production systems, counting 26 deepwater trees, alongside the installation of subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF) across a varied water depth ranging up to 4,265 feet.

Mahesh Swaminathan, McDermott’s Senior Vice President, subsea and floating facilities, conveyed confidence in the firm’s capabilities, highlighting McDermott’s reputation for managing fast track projects with adeptness and efficiency. “This award demonstrates McDermott’s track record of executing fast track projects of this nature,” stated Swaminathan. He emphasized the importance of the ongoing partnership with ONGC, expressing certainty that McDermott’s collaborative approach would “continue to position us well for the successful delivery of this next stage of this important project for India.”
