TotalEnergies EP Suriname has launched its first in-person technical training focused on the regulatory aspects of floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) operations, as part of preparations for the GranMorgu project.
The training was held from August 25 – 29, 2025, at the company’s Paramaribo office and delivered by Lagosplan Technical Services. Speaking about the program, Hércules Medeiros, Executive in Projects, Operations, and Asset Management at TotalEnergies, said, “[This] marks a pivotal step in our local content policy and strengthens our commitment to capacity building and workforce development in Suriname.”
He explained that the training was designed to equip field operations engineers and other company professionals with a robust understanding of international offshore standards, such as CAP437, MARPOL, SOLAS, GMDSS, IMO, ILO, FLAG, CLASS, STCW, COLREG, and Health & Safety, all critical to the future operations of the GranMorgu project.
Training highlights included detailed descriptions of international rules applied to FPSO operations, group discussions, quizzes, case studies, and active engagement from teams across Operations, Planning, Legal and HSE departments.
“This initiative not only prepares our affiliate for regulatory compliance, but also fosters a culture of technical excellence and operational integrity,” Medeiros said. “It reflects our strategic vision to ensure that TotalEnergies EP Suriname’s team is fully equipped and aware of the regulatory landscape that governs offshore oil and gas operations.”
The GranMorgu development will feature subsea wells tied back to an all-electric drive FPSO to be delivered by SBM Offshore in partnership with Technip Energies. The vessel will have the capacity to produce 220,000 barrels of oil per day, with first oil expected in 2028.
