Dear Editor,

We hear a lot about the money coming from oil, but what really matters is how that is improving people’s lives.

Lately, I’ve been encouraged to see more examples of that happening in communities. Programs supported through the oil and gas sector are starting to make a real difference where it counts.

For example, the Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association (GRPA), through support from the Greater Guyana Initiative, has been reaching more people in the hinterland and underserved areas with essential health services.

At the same time, the FLOW water program is helping bring clean drinking water into schools, improving both health and daily life for students.

These kinds of initiatives, supported through the Greater Guyana Initiative (GGI), show that the benefits of the oil industry are not just staying at the top, but reaching into communities.

As the country continues to grow, I hope we see even more of this, where development is not just talked about, but truly felt by people across Guyana.

Sincerely,

Samantha Browne
