Operations of the Liza Destiny Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel will potentially provide the highest sustainable long-term employment opportunities for Guyanese over the lifetime of the project.

ExxonMobil, through its contractor; SBM Offshore, is in fact targeting a paced local content transition that could see a minimum of 75% Guyanese ultimately working on the vessel. SBM has been contracted by the US super-major to build and operate the FPSO for the Liza Phase 1 development.

Country Manager, Rod Henson, told OilNOW in a recent interview that when the company talks about local content, it wants to be strategic and sustainable. While many of the employment opportunities in the development phase of the project will be short-term, he pointed out that the FPSO provides an opportunity for long-term jobs when production gets underway in 2020.

“Sustainable is working on the FPSO; working on the Liza Destiny, because that ship will be here for the next several decades. So the expectation is that is where a large percentage of the jobs will be for Guyanese,” he said.

The Liza Destiny, scheduled to arrive in Guyana in 2019, will have a maximum storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels of oil, capable of producing up to 120,000 barrels per day. The vessel will also have a gas treatment capacity of approximately 170 million standard cubic feet per day.

Keppel Shipyard Ltd. has been contracted by SBM for conversion of the vessel.
